Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a medical referral for physiotherapy?
It is not mandatory. The physiotherapist is a healthcare professional qualified for independent assessment and treatment. However, a medical referral may facilitate reimbursement by health insurance plans.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies according to the diagnosis and severity of the condition. On average, orthopedic conditions require 8 to 16 sessions. After the initial assessment, you will receive a personalized estimate with clear rehabilitation goals.
Do you accept health insurance?
We provide private care. We issue receipts for reimbursement with your health plan, according to contracted coverage.
How do I book an appointment?
It's simple: click the WhatsApp button and get in touch directly. We respond quickly to find the best time for you. You can also book through Calendly on our website.
How long does each physiotherapy session last?
Each session lasts approximately 50 to 60 minutes, ensuring thorough and personalized treatment. The first appointment (assessment) may last up to 90 minutes.
What should I wear to a physiotherapy session?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows freedom of movement. Athletic wear is ideal. For lower limb treatments, shorts are recommended.
What is the difference between orthopedic physiotherapy and manual therapy?
Orthopedic physiotherapy is a broad specialty that treats musculoskeletal injuries using exercises, electrotherapy and other techniques. Manual therapy is an approach within physiotherapy that uses hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization and spinal manipulation. At Fisio Kiel Ciasca, we combine both approaches according to the patient's needs.
Do you treat athletes and sports enthusiasts?
Yes. Kiel Ciasca specializes in sports rehabilitation, treating professional and amateur athletes across various disciplines including running, surfing, football, CrossFit and other popular activities in Florianópolis.
What happens at the first physiotherapy appointment?
At the first appointment, we perform a complete kinetic-functional assessment: we analyze your medical history, imaging exams, posture, range of motion and strength. Based on this, we create an individualized treatment plan with defined goals and timelines.
Can physiotherapy treat a herniated disc?
Yes. Physiotherapy is the first-line treatment for herniated discs, according to international medical guidelines. We use manual therapy, therapeutic exercises and patient education to relieve pain and restore function. Studies show that 80-90% of cases improve without surgery.
Where is the clinic located in Florianópolis?
We are located at Rodovia Dr. Antônio Luiz Moura Gonzaga, 979, in the Rio Tavares neighborhood of Florianópolis, SC. The clinic is close to the Campeche, Novo Campeche, Porto da Lagoa and Lagoa da Conceição neighborhoods.
Does physiotherapy help with post-surgical recovery?
Yes, it is essential. Post-surgical physiotherapy follows evidence-based protocols for knee (ACL, meniscus, prosthesis), shoulder, hip and spine surgeries. Treatment begins in the first weeks after surgery to optimize recovery.
What are the opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. To book an appointment, contact us via WhatsApp.
Is physiotherapy recommended for chronic pain?
Yes. Physiotherapy is one of the most effective approaches for chronic musculoskeletal pain, such as chronic low back pain, neck pain and fibromyalgia. We use a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercises and pain neuroscience education.
Do you see foreign patients in Florianópolis?
Yes. Kiel Ciasca is fluent in Portuguese and English, treating foreign patients who live in or visit Florianópolis. The entire website is available in both languages.
What age can you start physiotherapy?
Orthopedic and sports physiotherapy is suitable for adolescents (from age 14) and adults of all ages. There is no age limit: we adapt the treatment to each patient's physical condition and goals.
